FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2026READER-FUNDED · AD-FREE FOR MEMBERS

The Colony is building a network of neighbors in all 77 Oklahoma counties who pay attention to what’s happening close to home. There are two ways to be part of it.

Dispatcher: be our eyes and ears.

You see what happens in your county before anyone else reports it. Dispatchers send tips, photos, videos, and voice notes from their phones: a county commission vote, a new permit, a road closure, a local event. You don’t write articles. You tell us what’s happening, and our correspondents and editors take it from there.

About 10 minutes whenever something happens. Volunteer. Your name is never published without your permission.

Correspondent: tell your county’s story.

Correspondents turn dispatches and their own reporting into published stories under their byline. You’re assigned a county, receive the dispatches for it, and work with our editors to publish accurate, fair local reporting. The best work gets featured in The Colony’s main News section.

One story a week or more. Volunteer, with bonuses for featured stories and for filing on schedule every week.

Not sure which fits? Choose “Both” or “Not sure” on the application and we’ll help you decide.

We will confirm your number by text before we send anything else. We are not sending texts yet.

A person reads every application. What you write is first passed through an automated pre-review that flags things for an editor's attention — it never accepts or rejects anybody. Nothing on this form is published.
